Following an extensive review of the alternatives for the Craig Ranch Regional Park Master Plan, at the April 18th 2007 meeting the City Council gave direction to the design team to move forward with Alternative One with the addition of two ball fields located on the undeveloped land on the west side of the property. This modified alternative has become the Preferred Alternative Plan.

The goal of this plan is to maintain much of the existing character of the property, including most of the mature trees, while introducing unique, high quality recreational experiences that will serve a wide range of users. These uses will be concentrated primarily along the currently undeveloped western edge of the park. Based on this Preferred Alternative Plan for the park, the City Council will determine which elements will be constructed with the limited funding that is available for the first phase of development. The new Craig Ranch Regional Park offers our community a chance to create a green oasis in the heart of our City. We're transforming the old Craig Ranch golf course into a wonderful new park with a wide variety of recreational activities - and you are the key to its design. With your input, Craig Ranch will become a uniquely artful and universally accessible 132-acre destination park for families from throughout the region.

The design team developed three concept plans with different themes. These design concepts present a variety of distinct recreation options, to introduce us to the types of features that can be included in our regional park. All of the proposed concepts are sensitive to the natural environment. The existing trees will be preserved where possible; and those that are removed will be replaced to ensure a healthy landscape. All include an amphitheater, an aquatic center, skate park, dog park, picnic areas and children's play areas. As a desert community, we appreciate the value of water - each design incorporates cooling water features that capitalize on this resource.

As a result of comments received from City Council members at a review meeting held on November 1st 2006 we have developed a fourth alternative plan. This concept combines aspects of all three of the original alternatives to maximize the range of activities included in the park. Please see more information on the Concept 4 page referenced above.

Now, as a community, we can review the concepts, select favorite elements from each, and help develop a final design for a park that meets our needs. Great parks become the gathering places for the communities they serve; they bring people together from all walks of life and offer a respite from the urban environment. Craig Ranch will be a dynamic new heart for the City of North Las Vegas. Join us as we work together to shape the future of our city.
