Concept 3: Emphasis on Team Sports
The third concept emphasizes organized sports facilities, including a lighted softball fourplex and four lighted multi-use playing fields sized to accommodate soccer and football. An artful water feature meanders through the sports area, providing a playful setting and creating a link to the natural areas beyond. A central concession stand overlooks a pond, providing an area to relax between games. The aquatics center provides a visual connection to the outdoor environment but there is no outdoor swimming in this concept. Multiple group picnic areas are scattered throughout, with branching trails leading through the natural, open space area that begins at the eastern edge of the park. The native vegetation transitions from desert in the south, to riparian, to forest in the north. Pond and stream water features create natural separations between the distinct environments, with bridges and walking paths connecting the sports facilities with the natural wooded and meadow areas. In this concept, approximately 30% of the existing trees are preserved. Click here to view Concept 3 in detail.
