Preferred Alternative Plan
The preferred alternative highlights natural areas and includes trails, a variety of native gardens and facilities for informal active recreation. It maintains the existing tree canopy and emphasizes family recreation in a natural environment.
Courts for tennis, sand volleyball and basketball are grouped together at the main entrance to the park. A dynamic, in-ground skate park is also provided for active recreation. Two youth softball fields are located on the currently undeveloped western edge of the park. An environmentally sensitive indoor aquatic facility flows to a large outdoor swimming lake and beach area. Located nearby is an interactive, nature-based regional children's play area.
Within the natural area of the park, an artistic circular plaza located next to a cooling water feature offers a scenic space for community gatherings. The amphitheater is set dramatically on a tranquil pond surrounded by native foliage that provides a setting for family picnicking. In this plan, approximately 70% of the existing trees are preserved.
Based on this Preferred Alternative Plan for the park, the City Council will determine which elements will be constructed with the limited funding that is available for the first phase of development.
